VNC slow

I'm running Astroarch (kernel 6.12.57-1-rpi) and am trying to "fix" excruciatingly slow VNC connection. I have tried editing /boot/config.txt adding an HDMI line and commenting out dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d to no avail. In fact, when I comment out the dtoverlay line, I can't connect using VNC at all. I found a yt video that said I needed to power cycle the pi but that didn't fix anything.

When the pi is connected to a monitor and keyboard, it works perfectly. But the pi is supposed to be headless, attached to my scope.

What can I check?

Do not modify these files to fix slowdowns with VNC.

Are you using the latest image, astroarch-2.0.4-20251103.img.gz?

@khobar95 eventually you could try RDP. There is no golden rule on remote connection, some people have faster VNC, some faster RDP. It's a bit of a trial and error to see what fits best your use case and your setup

Thanks for the replies.

I know I am not using 20251103 but something older. I've no issue trying something newer in case there's a bug fix or something. IMHO, this feels more like a misconfiguration.

As for RDP, I a few moments ago, I set that up. It seems a bit better but still slow. That said, at least now there is no keybounce issue. :)

I'll work on updating to latest and see how that goes.

Hi - I installed 2.0.4 and it does seem to be a bit better. I'm going to update my other pi and see if it works the same. Thanks!

Hi Mattia - I did install RDP and got it running - thx for the idea. I could only get it to connect using "any-VNC" and the performance was the same as before. However, upgrading to 2.0.4 has improved things some, so I'm going to try that on my other pi. Cheers!

I installed 2.0.4 on a second pi and VNC is still dismal.

I installed Debian Bookworm on the same pi and VNC is smooth.

I don't get it.

I'm not sure if this is at all helpful to the development folks, but it might be.
